Privacy and data use

This page explains how HAAbase Mines handles limited visitor data, how site content may be used, and the terms that apply to the text, images, and compiled material published on this website.

General approach

HAAbase Mines is an independent research-led heritage register. The site is intended as a public reference resource, and only limited information is collected and used in connection with its operation, security, and improvement.

The site is not operated for advertising purposes, and visitor information is not sold or used to build marketing profiles. Any technical data collected through normal website operation is used only in a proportionate way to maintain, monitor, and improve the service.

Technical information collected automatically

As with most websites, limited technical information may be recorded automatically when you visit the site. This may include the date and time of access, pages requested, browser type, device type, referring page, IP-related technical data, and similar information needed for normal site delivery, security, diagnostics, and performance monitoring.

This information is used only for legitimate website administration purposes, including maintaining service availability, investigating faults, monitoring performance, and protecting the site from misuse or malicious traffic.

Analytics

This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics and a locally hosted installation of Matomo Analytics to help understand overall traffic and how the register is used. This information helps identify, for example, which pages are visited, how visitors reach the site, which parts of the register are most useful, and broad patterns of device and geographic use.

Matomo is hosted on infrastructure operated by The Handley Partnership rather than through Matomo’s hosted cloud service. The analytics configuration does not place tracking cookies on visitors’ devices. Internet Protocol addresses are anonymised before being used for reporting, and the analytics system is not configured to identify named individuals, track visitors across unrelated websites, or build advertising profiles.

Analytics information may include pages viewed, approximate visit times, referring websites, browser and device type, broad geographic information, interactions with links, and similar technical usage information. This information is used only to operate, secure, evaluate, and improve the website and its heritage register.

Cloudflare Web Analytics provides general traffic information as part of the site’s content-delivery and security arrangements. Matomo provides more detailed information about the use of pages and site functions. Neither service is used by HAAbase Mines for advertising, cross-site profiling, or the sale of visitor information.

Contact and correspondence

If you contact the project by email or by any contact method provided on the site, the information you supply will be used only to respond to your enquiry, manage related correspondence, and maintain any necessary project records arising from that contact.

Contact information will not be used for unrelated marketing purposes, and it will not be shared except where reasonably necessary for hosting, email handling, site administration, or where disclosure is required by law.

External services and links

This website may use external services to support content delivery, security, mapping, fonts, and other technical functions necessary for its operation. It also uses locally hosted analytics software. These services and systems may process limited technical information as part of providing their functions.

The site may also contain links to external websites, archives, heritage records, or other resources. Once you leave this website, the content, privacy practices, and terms of those external sites are outside the control of HAAbase Mines.

Use of site content and images

Unless otherwise stated, the text, photographs, research compilation, database-style arrangement, and overall presentation of this website are protected by copyright and related rights. All photographs and images published on the site remain the property of their respective rights holder unless expressly stated otherwise.

Content on this site is provided for personal, private, educational, and non-commercial reference use only. It may not be copied, republished, redistributed, scraped, harvested, bulk-downloaded, or reused in other websites, databases, publications, social media, commercial products, or other projects without prior permission.

Data extraction, scraping, and AI use

Systematic extraction of material from this website is not permitted. This includes bulk copying, scraping, harvesting, automated downloading, or the reuse of text, images, structured data, or compiled site content for database building, aggregation, republication, or similar purposes without prior written permission.

Site content, including images, text, and compiled data, may not be used to train, fine-tune, populate, or support artificial intelligence systems, machine learning datasets, automated collections, or comparable tools without prior written permission.

Image protection

Reasonable technical and practical measures may be used to discourage unauthorised copying or reuse of images and other site material. These may include reduced web resolution, watermarking, hotlink protection, or similar safeguards appropriate to the operation of the site.

Such measures are intended to protect original research and photographic work, but they do not imply that any image or content is free for reuse where copying has remained technically possible.

Accuracy, revision, and data retention

Information published on HAAbase Mines is research-led and may be revised as new evidence becomes available. Technical records, logs, correspondence, and related administrative material are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for security, site management, troubleshooting, record-keeping, or responding to enquiries.

The site aims to handle information responsibly and proportionately, but no online service can guarantee absolute security in all circumstances.

Permissions and enquiries

If you wish to reproduce, quote substantially from, reuse, or license any text, image, or other content from this site, permission should be requested first. The same applies if you have a question about privacy, data use, or the handling of material published on the website.

Contact details should be provided here, or through the contact information made available elsewhere on the site.

This page may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the site, its technical services, or the way in which information and content are managed.
